[Call for Action] Help Enrich The Mozilla Location Service

We’ve just kicked off the Mozilla Geolocation Pilot project India. Mozilla Geolocation service is so far the most open & public location service in the world, and now you have the opportunity to help make it better.

mozGeoPilot

Here’s how:

  1. Download & install MozStumbler on your GPS enabled Android phone
    • You may have to enable installing apps from SD card security lock
  2. Open the App, visit settings & set a Nickname
    • Share the nick by filling up the form embedded below
    • The nick will be used for ranking you on the leaderboard
  3. Go on about Stumbling all over the places, throughout India
    • The app doesn’t need an active data connection
    • You can upload all collected data whenever you get online
  4. On 4th May, 2014 12:00 UTC, we’ll publish the custom leaderboard
    • We’ll look up for scores only among the form-submitted Nicks

For the ones topping the chart, we’ll reward their great effort with some interesting gifts:

  1. Topper: 7800mAh Mobile Power Bank
  2. Runner-up: 5600mAh Mobile Power Bank
  3. Next 3 runner-ups: 3 x 2800mAh Mobile Power Banks

All other geolocation-scouts with valiant contributions will also be recognized in the follow-up blog post.

So, go on now… the time is ticking! 😉

Can someone please explain how this works? From what I understand, it maps SSID access points with GPS co-ordinates, but I don’t think its that simple.
